Holmes, Rice still offer value

NFL

To no one's surprise, Santonio Holmes has been let go by the New York Jets. He simply was not worth the cap space he was taking up. But Holmes still has plenty left in the tank, and could be an asset elsewhere, at the right price.

In the prime of his career, Holmes was shipped to the Jets, and the Pittsburgh Steelers received very little in return; the Steelers simply didn't want him on their team anymore after his substance-abuse violation. After early success as a Jet, Holmes struggled to stay on the field the past two seasons due to injury, missing 17 games over that span. During that time, he combined for just 43 receptions and 728 yards.

But when he has been active and healthy, he has caused problems for opposing defenses -- and the same can be said for another free-agent receiver who could be had for a bargain price, Sidney Rice. Let's take a look at what each can still bring to the table, as well as a handful of teams that should look to sign them.
