Bucs release Davin Joseph

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the release of veteran guard Davin Joseph on Saturday.

The move is not at all surprising. Joseph, 30, had a rough 2013 season as he tried to come back from a 2012 season cut short by a major knee injury. He had two career Pro Bowl berths and had been with the Bucs since 2006.

But money might have been the overriding factor. Joseph had been scheduled to count $6 million against this year's salary cap. By releasing him, the Bucs saved the entire $6 million. Tampa Bay now has more than $24 million in salary cap room heading into the start of free agency.
