Dashon Goldson fined $60,000

NFL, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson and Buffalo Bills wide receiver Robert Woods were the hardest hit when fines were levied by the NFL on Friday.

Goldson was fined $60,000 by the NFL for a helmet-to-helmet hit to St. Louis Rams receiver Stedman Bailey. Goldson was penalized 15 yards on the play.

The latest fine adds to Goldson's reputation for running afoul of the league's rules. He previously was suspended for one game without pay (about $250,000). Prior to the suspension, Goldson was fined at least twice this season for illegal hits.

Woods was fined $15,750 by the NFL for throwing a punch at Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones.

Woods was ejected in the third quarter of the Bills' 19-0 win Sunday over the Dolphins after he swung at Jones' helmet while the two players tussled on the ground.

"Of course you shouldn't throw a punch in a football game, but if you're playing outside the rules, sometimes you got to be a man sometimes," Woods said Monday. "But I learned my lesson and just can't do it again."

The Bills' second-round pick has 39 catches for 560 yards in 13 games played this season.

In other fines announced Friday:

• St. Louis linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar was fined $21,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit.

• Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson was docked $15,750 for roughing the passer after the league said he "unnecessarily" drove Cleveland quarterback Jason Campbell to the ground, "landing on him with his full weight." Richardson is appealing the fine.
