If the players' union ever takes over control of the league, you will end up with Major League Football, where only the major market teams will be competitive. Of course, the salary cap will be done away with and "guaranteed money" will be flowing all over the place. I will take Goodell's type of dictatorship over the self-serving NFLPA anyway. Free-market capitalism is great, but it doesn't work in sports leagues, unless you're a fan of the Yankees, Red Sox, Braves or Cardinals. Same goes for the NBA, where Commisioner Stern can't restrain his giddyness over Dwight Howard going to the Lakers.

When goodell becomes the product he can have that power. There will be no NFL if the players dont play. They are the product.

So the NFLPA says that Goodell is lying........duh.....hello? He's a liar isn't he? That's what they do.

So, Goodell asserts that he was ready to pass judgement before 21 March. That will be problematic for the NFL. Fujita testified that Goodell told him otherwise on/about 20 March. Fujita's testimony aligns to his own June press statement (before this became a issue). Smith's testimony also disagrees with Goodell. Lastly, Goodell's statement does not agree with his own statements to the press in April (which may be explained to some degree). All this hurts his credibility to the judge. The other issue is that it shows bias/partiality. He was ready to rule before ever interviewing the accused. Does that seem to meet minimum standards of fairness?

The 30th is a critical ruling; however, it will be chaired by a 3 member appeals panel (fairly well qualified folks). They will decide whether the players should be disciplined for pay-for-performance, which would take the decision away from Goodell, or for conduct detrimental, which would affirm that Goodell has the power to judge.

Got it. So when is Burbank expected to rule, is that the end of this month? That would seem a critical ruling.

Goodell provided a sworn declaration to the federal judge stating that he was ready to hand down player discipline before 21 Mar. http://www.latimes.com/sports/football/nfl/la-sp-nfl-report-20120817,0,2384643.story

One question, maybe you can provide a link? Is it just Fujitas word that Goodell said he was ready to rule on March 20/21, before any interviews?

As long as Goodell remains in charge, the NFL is going to see its fan base erode and his reputation take a big hit. Until he appoints an independent third party in these or any suspensions this dance will continue. The problem is he is too stupid to see that.

A on QB. You have to get the best RB left in round 2 if you take a QB in round 1. Very risky.

When this story first came out, I thought the Saints were guilty, because I didn't think Goodell would publicly accuse without proof or due process. As this farther unfolds, it seems that Goodell is using his power in the CBA only, to justify his actions and there was no real proof. He also used the media to gain support for his actions. This is something the NFLPA should fight as it affects many issues, not just bounties.

Oh I agree. That's why I made the comment. Steeler fans hate Goodell way before this, so your opinion here is a bit biased my friend. By the way, does Antonio Brown overtake Wallace this season?

He was after the Steelers way before the Saints. King Roger picked on our team while Rooney was away in Ireland. Now the true King is back.

Sounds like a case of "He Said...He Said." And IF the NFL's contention is true, of course Goodell would have acted like he hadn't already made up his mind. He wouldn't be able to get away with saying he's withholding penalties on the NFLPA request. So this is all meaningless.

What most people fail to realize is what Rodger use to do for the NFL. I keep seeing so many people write about him being a lawyer which he is not. He was first hired to the NFL as an intern. From there he was an assistant in the public relations department. Rodger loves to talk to the camera and that will be what causes his down fall.

Credibility, which can be a factor in court, is at stake. Goodell's asserts the he was ready to decide before 21 March. Fujita testified that Goodell told him otherwise. Fujita's testimony also aligns to his own June press statement. De Smith's testimony also disagrees with Goodell. Lastly, Goodell's statement does not agree with statements to the press in April. All this points to the fact that Goodell MAY be playing word games as it conveniences him. This can harm his credibility before the judge regarding the NLF's entire position.

Diver FC
If a judge believes that one side is being dishonest with part of it's testimony, it goes to the heart of the credibility of the witness. If Goodell is not being honest with the judge or public, it can support Vilma's case that Goodell, as the arbitrator, was not being open and honest when executing his responsibilities under the CBA.
