Reflecting on training camp travels
ESPN.com
August 8, 2012

After visiting 11 training camps in 10 days, there's a lot to digest.Initially, I worried about the impact of the new collective bargaining agreement on the camp tour. As it turned out, the one-pract...

Tebow doesnt have any gimmicks. he is just a great all around player at qb. he isnt the best passer, but he will surprise teams because he doesnt throw many mistakes or int. he forces defenses to spy him which create openings for the pass. he will run the ball like a running back instead of throwing it away or up for grabs. this increases your chances of winning every set of downs. I'm not a religious person , just a football fan

Sanchez did not have the luxury that Tebow had coming out of college. Tebow immediately enjoyed the extra attention and personal (QB) training from Jon Gruden and other NFL types who immediately offered Tebow extra support, which was unheard of for NFL rookies. Yet, Sanchez is light years ahead of Tebow whose Wildcat gimmicks will be short-lived. In the NFL the player's level of technical ability will sooner rather than later be exposed even if the person is a nice guy with a winning attitude.

all that you said about extra attention and gruden training ddont help anyone play once the live action begins. tebow plays winning football everywhere he plays. all those idiots that said he was only good in college and a 4-5th round pick were wrong along with he cant win indenver, He took a losing team and went on and made the playoffs and beat the defending champs, steelers. now he will get the starting job when sanchez plays he up and down game. then he will lead the jets to the playoffs

Come on Mr. Clayton. When did the expectations of a player to "man up" disappear. If Sanchez's ego is so fragile then he needs to rub some dirt on it and start performing.

Comment # 1 - Tebowmania, etc - You people are nuts if you think Tebow will take the Jest anywhere. His game is over. The defenses have figured him out. Putting him in for a trick play or two might work a couple of times, but again the defenses will adjust. No team ever go thte palyoffs and won championships by relying on wild cat gimmicks.. Conventional, pocket passing, hard hitting football wins championships. Tricks will get you one or two wins but that's it. stick with Sanchez, or whoever else is backing him up. Man I wish this Tebow stuff would just go away.

Shurmur did a great job with the Rams. If he hadn't left they could've had a winning season last year. But then Fisher wouldn't be there

McNabb fit phillys system perfectly, i think his time is done, he doesnt have the right mechanics and hes too inaccurate to be a pocket passer and too slow to do what he used to do.

If Tebow and freak'n John Beck, got roster spots as backups, I know there's a place for McNabb. If he's willing to be a backup, I don't see how he could be worse than Painter or some of the other stiffs riding the pine.

Can you stop writing how great it is that "Andy Reid has his football family"? Last I checked, he has a family. I imagine they need him more than he needs football right now. I can't imagine how his wife must feel, reading that media is praising her husband for leaving their situation after about three days so he can be back among his 'other family'. How must she feel? I feel for that woman.

Oh John, you must be soooooo tired. A mind blowing 2,433 miles in only 10 days. That's about 243 miles per day...a round trip from NYC to Atlantic City, NJ. I got friends that commute that much every day, 50 weeks a year, + put in a 8-10 hour day. And since you were able to cover 4 teams in 2 days, you only had 8 days to cover the other 7? How tough it must be!

The Afc west should be one of the most fun to watch this year. Last year a lot of injuries took its the teams out. Jets need a new head coach the wild cat only works if defense is not looking for it. Everyone will be watching when they place tebow in the game on goal line ( red zone ) so the def will more then likely stack the box up. the brownies no one cares for they are the nfl red headed step child. The new owner was dumb for hang out as much as he did. When he could have given his employees a raise. And last. Andy needs to get a life out side of the NFL. He's family is droping like flys and all he cares about is football. I'm shock his wife has yet to leave him. This is what the 2en kid to die or go to jail over something dumb? Wake up Andy and take care of ur family f the game! They need you more then the NFL dos but then Andy your just blind and heartless to your own family.

Dear Espn, Please stop wasting so much space and our time giving us so many updates on a BACKUP QB. I don't need constant updates on what he ate for breakfast how large his morning poop was and whether he prayed before practice or not. Thanks, Everyone who doesn't have thier head up Tebow's $@%!.

ESPN's penchant for stats and prognostication are no where more evident that with John Clayton. Mr Peepers obviously never played a day of physically demanding sports in his life, and he defaults to stats before understanding that winning and losing in sports is often not a matter of ability, but heart and desire. With as much respect as I can draw....I don't put a lot of stock in your evals, John....hope the trip was pleasant and you had someone to carry your bags.

totally disagree with your post, stat totally matter in sports. Does it make a or break winning a game it could. It certainly pertains to bring in another QB to get the job done in a certain area. how will they evaluate those short coming they will turn to the stats. John merely stated the obvious, Sanchez has excellent red zone stats which means he gets the job done. Bring in someone who hasn't done as well doesn't make much sense at all. Oh and tell those NFL players when it's time to resign or restructure their deals stats don't matter. Stats matter Not the end all be all but they play a big part in the game. How do u think coaches prepare for certain situations in a game. That was a nice attempt to prop up the decision to bring in an inadequate QB who isn't better than your starter but it's an epic fail.

Between Rex and tony they have one big clown. The team has a porous O-line and yet they wonder why they have trouble running the ball. Now they will run a conservative offense combined with a trick offense and fool opponents. Not sure who is drinking more koolaid: Coaches or Fans
