CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bears returned to practice Friday for the club's 8th Family Fest at Soldier Field in front of 27,352 fans, but linebacker Brian Urlacher missed his third consecutive day of wor... Read full story
Urlachers scope is to call defenses and to get guys in the right spot. He will spy the QB on pass plays while covering the middle of the field.. Which he is fully capable of . Obviously you are not going to see much sideline to sideline coverage from Brian.
I would rather have Urlacher with one leg than most MLBs with 2 legs. His experience is too valuable.

oh, boy...hey everyone, keep on crying and being afraid of the o-line...you'll be in for a surprise when the DEFENSE lets this team down in this the year of our best chance at the SB. i've been saying all summer on here, be worried about the defense, still seems like everyone is only worried about the o-line. this knee is a major concern, along with 3/4 of the d-line and 1/2 of the secondary. 316 Days ago

I wouldnt even play him in the first preseason games, he doesnt need to learn anything. He's Brian Urlacher he's gonna go out there and do what he does. 317 Days ago

"In Urlacher's absence, starting strong side linebacker Nick Roach worked at middle linebacker, while Blake Costanzo took early repetitions with the starters on the strong side."
Soooooooo is Geno Hayes 3rd string at strong now.. what happened? or is he hurt too. Why is Costanzo taking reps ahead of him. 317 Days ago

Not going to need the same defense with this offense. This is the year for the D to rest. The O will be carrying this team this year!! 317 Days ago

This is extremely smart by the Bears. Urlacher doesn't need reps. He knows this defense inside and out. Plus, his body doesn't need to take a beating. Rest his need, do conditioning drills, have him ready for the Super Bowl push at the start of the season.
I'd actually give him extremely limited reps in the pre-season. Peppers too. 317 Days ago

This is not related to Urlacher's injury but it made me think of The Best Damn Sports Show when Bas Rutten was telling a story of how he accidently stepped on Urlachers foot and Urlacher asked him if he wanted to step outside...you can watch the video on Youtube. Its mildly amusing. We will know its serious if they sign Pisa or another linebacker here in the next few weeks. 317 Days ago

For these types of severe MCL and PCL strains, swelling and discomfort is very normal for players when they get back to the grind. It's a process but it's not abnormal at all. He'll need extra care this season- more icing, maybe a shot now and again but to say that his season is blown or that he'll be a liability is way premature. Because he looked gimpy in a practice in August doesn't have any bearing on his ability to play in September. 317 Days ago

Rshockey...I watched pratice the other night and I am not seeing what you are saying. He surely isnt 100% but to say he will be a wash all year is ridiculous and VERY VERY misleading. Lovie has rested players since he was named head coach for various reasons and this is a excellent situation to give Block more rest. Come opening day he will be the Block we all know. The knee brace does look a lil robotic but he seems ok to me. 317 Days ago

I hope he plays this pre-season so you can see, but then you'll just say its pre-season, and wait till the season starts, but by then it will be too late. 318 Days ago

I'm swallowing my bears pride here and admitting it, if he plays MLB for us with that knee, we are gonna get crushed, especially against the Packers, I don't think he will make it to that game, but hopefully he can prove me wrong and be the pre-sprained MCL Urlacher without the knee brace, who drops into coverage better then any other LB. I'm sorry, but even Urlacher at 75% should be able to cover a TE that won't even make the team. 318 Days ago
RShockey78
Nope, but I know what I saw. And he had a nice knee brace on, hmmmm??? No contract, no practice, can't cover his own shadow??? Don't need to be a doctor for that, obviously the coaches or a doctor are seeing something and thats why he's not practicing. Go watch him practice if you can, and tell me what you think, of the urlacher you see. 318 Days ago

I see you with like a ton of posts, no one really thinks your an expert. if brian says its ok thats good enough for me. No one said he couldn't run laterally, you did and you are who in the Bears orginzation? O yea. he is fine. 317 Days ago

The Bears and Urlacher know how bad it is, but their not gonna tell the fans about it yet, gotta make some more money. 318 Days ago

Just remember you heard it hear first. I talked about it on Tuesday after I saw him practice, before he was held out of practice, and what do ya know, he doesn't practice for three days. 318 Days ago

He may be back to normal next year, but kiss this year goodbye. 318 Days ago
RShockey78
Your not understanding this, when he was PRACTICING ON TUESDAY, he was trying to run, and give it a go, but he COULDN'T RUN LATERALLY BECAUSE OF HIS INJURED KNEE, and he has been resting for like 7 months. 318 Days ago

Well duh, Im sure he isnt going to be the Same. He can still play at a high level. Wow, cause the coaches told him to rest and cause he has a knee brace on that means that he isnt doing good? Lol, You do know that it doesnt really mean anything, that players have played with knee braces beofer, right? coaches have also told players before to rest. Doesnt mean anything. They want him healthy for the Season which is more important then practice so he doesnt injure it more. 318 Days ago

The way to know if they are telling the truth on this stuff is to look and see ir their lips are moving. If they are, somebody is probably lying. Anybody seen Urlacher practice? Is this just caution, or is he going to be limited during the regular season this year? 318 Days ago
RShockey78
I went and watched practice on Tuesday, and we sat in the end zone while they did goal line full pads and hitting, Urlacher looked fine if all he had to do was run straight up the middle, he blew up Klutz in the hole. Then they moved on to passing drills, and thats when I saw it, but Urlacher CAN'T run laterally, he couldn't cover the 3rd string TE, every TE that ran and made a cut had about 5 yards on him. That knee is worse then they say it is, if he can't cover the middle, drop back and make plays LATERALLY, then he's no good to that defense. The man couldn't run, sorry to say, but not the same Urlacher at all. After what I saw, I wouldn't sign him to an extension either. If I'm lieing about Urlacher, go ahead and prove me wrong and sign him to an extension. I say he has about a 3% chance of playing at the level he did last year, about a 2% chance of playing every game, a 1% chance of getting a contract extension, and a 0% chance of covering Michael Finley or any other TE in the league and making the Pro-Bowl with that knee. And I love Urlacher to death, but you can't hide not being able to cover and run laterally, and then be held out of practice. Sorry fellow Bears fans, and I think the media is helping cover it up. he looked bad. 318 Days ago
