A prosecutor says such arrangements -- allowing people convicted of low-level offenses to keep their job -- are not unusual. nice.

I think his time at training camp with the lame a$$ Jets should count as community service too.

You morons do realize his assault and battery charge stems from him defending his girlfriend while at a bar right? As for splitting time, this happens all the time with certain crimes. He was a first time offender and has a job, hence why the judge is allowing this to happen. Did you see his sentence get reduced? No. The only reason any of you are making a big deal out of this is because he's an athlete and it's in the news. Go sit in a court room for a week and you will see this kind of thing happens all the time. Don't be uneducated idoits people.

The special Alford plea Ellis used in striking a plea, one that doesnt admit guilt, but acknowledges prosecutors could prove the case against him, shows that Ellis morally feels that he was in the right . This over an issue between Ellis and the victim, a Hampton university student in 2010, that followed a dispute between the victim and Ellis girlfriend one day prior. ME MORON: I thought he was defending his girl in a bar not going after the guy on campus a day later

Pathetic and biased system! The ordenary people would not get this treatment. It helps to have the judge who likes the sport.

you are a moron. obviously, you know nothing of how our legal system works. the guy was a first time offender. has not a bit of trouble since then. this is the norm in this instance. the guy has kept his nose clean. he has a job. he has cooperated in whatever the court has told him to do. but, just because you probably hate the jets.....you think its out of the ordinary. go learn something. and...by the way....he got in trouble because he was defending his girlfriend against some neanderthal. you got the cajones to stand up like a man? nah....

This is not uncommon. I know someone sentenced to 30 days and the judge allowed him to report to jail on the weekends so he could work and take care of his kids. It all depends on the judge. If New York is anything like California, Ellis should have just reported and he would have gotten out in 15-20 days due to overcrowding.

I'm almost positive this all happened before he was drafted. This isn't like the Pryor situation with him trying to dodge getting suspended in college so I doubt Goodell will suspend him.

His conviction is in Virginia. Goodell will probably suspend him, so he can finish his sentence now.

Tell that to Terelle Pryor . . .

It was prior to him joining the NFL..Goodell has no authority. It was prior the draft...NFL has nothing to do with it.

OMG! what a load of B.S. Why does he get to "split" his sentence? This is the probelm with America. I wonder how much that judge pocketed. If i assaulted my girlfriend and had a job internship coming up i would not be allowed to split time.. sad.

wow. you make a total a-hole of yourself. did you read the story? do you know what happened? obviously not. the guy did not assault his girlfriend. he assaulted the guy who was assaulting the girl. he stood up for her. man.....why don't you read the whole story before making a stupid comment? idiot!!

This is one of the worst decisions I have ever seen. If this was anyone other than a pro athlete they would have to serve the entire sentence at one time. Typical scum bag making big money and mistakes. Pro sports should have a zero tolerance policy.

They are only role models if you allow them to be. My son and I watch football every Sunday, not once have I heard him say that one of them is his role model. He actually wants to be like me when he grows up. If you spend time with your kids that don't use althletes as role models. It's called parenthood,

who would even still have job after being convicted of assault and battery?? other than in the NFL, where the bigger your rap sheet, the bigger the contract.

It's only "low level" if you're not the one assaulted and battered.

I was put in jail for 15 days for a DUI, I wasn't allowed to work with the court to keep my job. Thats a low-level offense.

I can tell your from Ohio, get a life if you think DUI isn't serious, you should be fired if your dumb enough not to pay for $12 cab ride when your drunk. The Browns, CAVS, Indians and the Buckeyes suck. By the way Lebron just went up 2-1.

Luckily I didn't pull out of the parking lot, I was pulled over as I pulled out of my parking spot. So quick to judge

Still behind the wheel after drinking, just because you were luckily pulled over before you left the parking lot doesn't excuse your lack of decision-making. Still a stupid thing to do.

OSU: While DUI is serious, I get your point (unlike pattpatriot).... Of course, you didn't get the option of serving your time here and there because you are not of the privileged class. The guy should serve his time like you had to serve your time.....

Considering how dangerous you are to others driving under the influence, 15 days is pretty light. Is being drunk behind the wheel only serious if you kill someone? Or should you be punished appropriately before you kill someone?

While I agree to a point, assault and battery covers a lot of ground, from pushing the wrong person to what more typically comes to mind when one reads "assault and battery." Without details of the case, we are in no position to judge the judge.

EXACTLY...., especially if you are the assaulted and battered.... HOWEVER, if the victim of this did not civilly sue the idiot and at least get some money from this, he's a fool...
