LET'S START WITH THE OBVIOUS: No matter what you hear during the hype of Super Bowl week, the inarguable fact is that the Giants and Patriots are not great teams. True, Super Sunday's matchup could h... Read full story

what a load of crap this is. What great teams with no flaws missed out on this game???? and there is absolutely no perspective added to explain why some numbers or rankings might be a little misleading. seems like Wickersham must a Packers, Saints or 49ers fan 139 Days ago

There is nobody better in the game than BB at identifying and exploiting the opposing team's weaknesses. He can beat the Giants if they don't expose too many of the Pat's weaknesses. In the end both teams will score in the 30s given the very suspect defenses, especially the respective secondaries. Turnovers may determine this game. 139 Days ago

umm, couple of points here...
first off, isn't knowing your weaknesses and consistently not letting the other team exploit them a sign of a great team?
second, are you paid by the number of irate comments generated when you put out a poorly thought-out and irrelevant piece like this?... Just sayin

Dumbest article ever. Every team in the NFL is lousy awful terrible because I the great all-knowing Seth Wickersham (who?) say so.
The NFL is a competitive league. Obviously no team is perfect nor has any team ever been perfect. To point that out is to point out the obvious. 140 Days ago

Its Goodells new league order. Offenses win conferences and flaws win SuperBowls. 140 Days ago

Interesting take, but you could really make arguments about any super bowl team being flawed. You could put these two teams up against past super bowl winners and it wouldn't be clear who would win. So what's the point of saying they're not very good. Really you're saying that these teams are not that much better than their competition in the league this year...an argument for parity, not that they're bad. 140 Days ago

This Pats went 13-3 this season, switched from 4-3 to a 3-4 mid season (which is pretty darn difficult), are revolutionizing offensive football, and have the greatest QB and head coach of all time.
But they're not great or anything... 140 Days ago

Wickersham...wow. You've been pretty much under my radar in terms of the ESPN contributors here and now that you've garnered my attention I want to ask you to go back underwater.
That's a terrible assessment of the two SB teams and, in general, of what it takes to make it to the SB. What I mean is - it's not that I disagree with you...it's that ESPN should understand that you don't understand how NFL football works. If I were your boss, this article would be an immediate red flag to make sure your editor was doing his / her job.
Also, someone needs to officially change the rules so that Defenses and Offenses are no longer ranked by yards allowed or gained. Points allowed or earned is the true measure of D and O units.
Maybe this isn't your best field to cover. how about writing something on French Cuisine, the migratory habits of Canadian Geese, or modern muscle cars - just to explore other topics and see if they suit you better.
Best of luck! 140 Days ago

There are a half a dozen commenters here who could do a fine job for ESPN in place of Wickersham. And, as you wrote, John28279, the best ranked defense was thoroughly trounced by Tebow - who, according to a lot of these so called sports analysts, isn't even a real NFL QB. Elsewhere on this thread someone mentioned the idea that with two weeks between Conference Championships and SB, we're bound to see more of this drivel as people like Wickersham try to earn their paychecks.
Sheesh... 140 Days ago

agreed. If the 'best ranked defense' was so easily bested, perhaps there is a problem with your rankings. Also, did this guy watch the packers game? It was the giants defense that stepped up and trounced the packers offense. 140 Days ago
