Ex-Virginia Tech G Georgia Amoore transferring to Kentucky

Former Virginia Tech guard Georgia Amoore is transferring to Kentucky to reunite with coach Kenny Brooks, she announced Thursday on social media.

The 5-foot-6 point guard from Australia helped Brooks turn the Hokies into an ACC and national power, clinching an ACC tournament title last season and the regular-season crown this year.

Amoore, along with three-time ACC Player of the Year Elizabeth Kitley, led Virginia Tech to its first Final Four last season, where it fell to eventual champion LSU in the national semifinal. A two-time first-team all-ACC selection, Amoore averaged 18.8 points and 6.8 assists per contest -- both career highs -- this past season as a senior and departs Blacksburg as the program's all-time assists leader.

Brooks -- who took over at Virginia Tech ahead of the 2016-17 season -- was announced last week as the new head coach at Kentucky following the firing of Kyra Elzy.

Amoore was eligible to declare for the WNBA draft but also has a fifth and final season of collegiate eligibility remaining, as the NCAA granted student-athletes a waiver for an extra year of competition during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brooks picked up two more commitments Thursday from former Virginia Tech center Clara Strack and junior college prospect Amelia Hassett.
