Vanderbilt women's basketball coach Melanie Balcomb has resigned after 14 seasons.
"After 31 years of coaching, I've decided to take some time to enjoy my children before they go off to grade school," Balcomb said in a statement.
The Tennessean earlier reported news of Balcomb's departure.
Balcomb, the program's all-time winningest coach, was 310-149 in 14 seasons at Vanderbilt. Before that, she was 135-78 in seven seasons at Xavier.
The Commodores missed the NCAA tournament the past two years, going 15-16 last season and 18-14 this season. Both years, Vanderbilt was 5-11 in the SEC. Before that, Vanderbilt had made the NCAA tournament field 15 years in a row.
The Commodores won three SEC tournament titles under Balcomb and advanced as far as the NCAA Sweet 16 four times.
The Tennessean pointed out that the Commodores' attendance for home games this season was 2,906, the lowest during Balcomb's tenure.
