Women's College Basketball

MARTIN, Tenn. -- Ohio Valley Conference player of the year Ashia Jones has been dismissed from the Tennessee Martin team for failing to meet the program's standards.

Coach Kevin McMillan added Friday that the forward is in good academic standing but did not specify what she did wrong. McMillan said it's an honor to represent UT Martin on and off the court.

The 6-foot-1 player from Covington, Tennessee, led the OVC and ranked fourth nationally by averaging 23.4 points. She was the third-fastest player in school history to score 1,000 career points, doing so in 57 games.

She also was the OVC freshman of the year and set the Skyhawks' single-game scoring record on Jan. 31 with 44 points at Murray State.
