Dawn Staley apologizes to Kentucky

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina coach Dawn Staley has apologized to the Kentucky women's basketball team for her reaction to a late timeout in Sunday's loss.

Staley said Monday in a Twitter post that she didn't realize some Kentucky seniors were still in the game when coach Matthew Mitchell called timeout with 16 seconds left and the Wildcats well ahead in a 67-56 victory.

Staley was seen with her arms outstretched in a questioning pose during the timeout, which she said she misinterpreted as Kentucky trying to soak in the upset a few extra moments.

"I was out of line & didn't realize Kentucky's seniors were in the game at the time," Staley tweeted, adding that she has apologized.

The Gamecocks (27-2) slipped a spot to No. 3 in the latest Associated Press poll.
