Maryland moves up ahead of Baylor

Women's College Basketball, Tennessee Lady Volunteers, Baylor Lady Bears, Maryland Terrapins, Oklahoma Sooners, Stanford Cardinal

Two weeks ago, NCAA selection committee chair Dru Hancock acknowledged that Tennessee, Baylor and Maryland were extremely close during the committee's first midseason public update.

That has been a common theme in Bracketology each week since January, too, and it's what made Wednesday's matchup between Baylor and Oklahoma such a pivotal one. A win by the Lady Bears over a top-20 RPI opponent like the Sooners would have bumped them up past Tennessee and onto the No. 1 seed line.

Instead Baylor suffered its second-lowest offensive output of the season and lost 68-64 in Norman, Oklahoma. That was enough for Maryland in this razor-thin race to jump past Baylor for the top No. 2 seed, fifth overall. That in turn resulted in Maryland moving to the Oklahoma City Regional, where Tennessee is the top seed, and Baylor moving to the Greensboro Regional.

Kentucky's loss on Monday at Ole Miss pushed the Wildcats out of top-four seed status and elevated Stanford one spot on the board, making the Cardinal the final No. 4 seed.

Here is a look at the top 16 seeds through Wednesday's games:

Greensboro Regional: South Carolina, Baylor, Duke, California

Albany Regional: Connecticut, Florida State, Iowa, Stanford

Oklahoma City Regional: Tennessee, Maryland, Arizona State, North Carolina

Spokane Regional: Notre Dame, Oregon State, Louisville, Texas A&M
