Destinee Walker, the No. 17 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100 for the 2015 class, has given a verbal commitment to play women's basketball at North Carolina.

The 5-foot-10 shooting guard from Lake Highland Prep (Orlando, Fla.) becomes the Tar Heels' third top-100 recruit from the 2015 class.

"My decision was difficult," Walker said. "All of my final choices were great universities with great coaches. But when I visited UNC, I just had a feeling unlike any other that made me realize that Chapel Hill was the place for me."

Walker, who has been playing varsity ball since she was in seventh grade and is just 26 points shy of 2,000 in her high school career, averaged 25 points and 6 rebounds per game as a junior. Over the summer, she won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, averaging 8.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.

"I will have freedom to display my game anywhere on the perimeter and to learn from assistant coach Ivory Latta and develop my skills," Walker said. "Also, from a logistical standpoint, my family can see me play often from Florida."

The Tar Heels, who are coming off an Elite Eight appearance in the 2014 NCAA tournament, boast one of the top recruiting classes in the nation. In addition to Walker, coach Sylvia Hatchell has verbal commitments from Stephanie Watts, a 5-9 guard and the No. 24 prospect in the nation, and Eternati Willock, a 6-2 forward and the No. 45 prospect.
