Aliyah Mazyck, the No. 18 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100 for the 2015 class, has given a verbal commitment to USC and coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke.

The 5-foot-9 point guard at Myers Park (Charlotte, N.C.) had also seriously considered an offer from Texas A&M.

"All of the programs that recruited me were excellent schools," Mazyck said. "I ultimately went with Southern Cal because I felt they never wavered in their desire to have me. I want to learn to be a better point guard and I know I will be challenged by Coach Cooper and learn from her through the experiences she has had."

Mazyck, who as a junior led Myers Park to a state title and a No. 9 ranking in the final espnW 25 Power Rankings, brings a dominating offensive attack to the backcourt with a dose of swagger as well. And she displays a real hunger to compete and elevate her game. She said she's grateful to both Myers Park coach Barbara Nelson as well as Renardo Hudson, who coaches her travel team.

"They have been there for me," Mazyck said. "And I want to keep developing on and off the court for them. I am also the first in my family to attend college and I am grateful to my coaches and family for their guidance."

Mazyck is the first member of the Trojans' 2015 class.
