Women Basketball Recruiting, Women's College Basketball, UConn Huskies

Napheesa Collier, a 6-foot-1 wing from Incarnate Word Academy (St. Louis), became the first player from the 2015 class to commit to Connecticut on Sunday when she gave a verbal to the Huskies.

Collier, the No. 7 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Super 60, also had considered Missouri, Kentucky, Notre Dame and Maryland.

Collier, who averaged 23.7 points and 10.0 rebounds, helped lead Incarnate Word (31-1) to its second straight Class 4A Missouri championship last year as a junior. She had 33 points and nine rebounds in the championship game, a 60-43 win over Dexter. Incarnate Word finished the season ranked second in the espnW 25 Power Rankings.

Collier was the Gatorade state player of the year as a sophomore, when she averaged 24.6 points and 11.9 rebounds in her first season at Incarnate Word after transferring from Jefferson City.

Connecticut, which won its ninth national championship earlier this month, has locked in a 2014 class ranked fourth in the nation. That class includes McDonald's All Americans Gabby Williams and Sadie Edwards as well as Courtney Ekmark and Kia Nurse. All four are ranked among the top 33 in the 2014 rankings.
