Odyssey Sims wins award for top PG

Women's College Basketball, Baylor Bears

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Baylor's Odyssey Sims has been named the Nancy Lieberman Award winner as the nation's best point guard for the 2013-14 season.

The 5-foot-8 senior guard averaged 28.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.0 steals this season. Sims finished the year ranked second in the country in Division I scoring. She also tallied 173 assists.

The Lieberman Award, named after the Naismith Hall of Famer, is given to the top floor leader, playmaker and ball handler as determined by season-long voting from sportswriters across the country.

Sims was given the award Sunday in Nashville at a presentation at the Final Four Tourney Town by ESPN's LaChina Robinson and espnW.com's Charlie Creme. On Saturday in Nashville, Sims also was named to the WBCA All-America team for the third consecutive season.

Sims, who helped lead Baylor to a 40-0 record and the 2012 NCAA title, guided the Lady Bears into this season's Elite Eight as a No. 2 seed in the Notre Dame Regional. Despite Sims' 33 points in the regional final, the Irish eliminated the Lady Bears.

Skylar Diggins won the Lieberman Award the past two seasons. Other previous winners of the Nancy Lieberman Award include Connecticut's Sue Bird (three times), Renee Montgomery and Diana Taurasi (twice), Duke's Lindsey Harding, LSU's Temeka Johnson, Gonzaga's Courtney Vandersloot, Maryland's Kristi Toliver, Oklahoma State's Andrea Riley and North Carolina's Ivory Latta.
