HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Freshman Amanda Cahill scored a season-high 20 points to lead No. 12 seed Indiana past 13th-seeded Penn State 68-63 on Wednesday in the first round of the Big Ten women's basketball tournament.

Indiana led throughout for its first conference tournament win since 2009.

Jess Walter scored 15 points, Larryn Brooks added 13 and Tyra Buss had 12 points, seven rebounds and eight assists as Indiana (15-15) snapped a five-game losing streak.

Sierra Moore scored 18 with six assists for Penn State (6-24) and Kaliyah Mitchell added 13 points with 10 rebounds.

Lindsey Spann, Penn State's leading scorer at 13.6 points per game, was held to just three points. Her three-point play with 16 seconds remaining cut Penn State's deficit to 65-63. Cahill answered with two free throws a second later and Penn State missed two 3-pointers the rest of the way.

Indiana advances to play No. 5 seed and 23rd-ranked Rutgers on Thursday.
