I'm glad he's not thinking about coaching the 2016 women's Olympic team. I've had it with him and his "UCON connection. Terausi,Bird,Charles and Moore got most of the playing time. I don't even know why Cash and Jones were even on the team in the first place. There are other WNBA players that deserved those spots more than those two. I guess Auriemma felt better with more UCON players around him. There is no way that Candace Parker should have come off the bench instead of Maya Moore. But he gave some "lame $@%" excuse about he wanted more outside shooting. Also,Lindsey Whalen is a better point guard than Sue Bird.

Geno is one of if not the best coach in the history of Basketball. He diseves all the credit in the world for all his success. He built the UConn program from the ground up and now has an Olympic Gold Medal to top it off.

And you are from what planet? Do the names John Wooden or Pat Summit ring a bell?

The head coach for the women's team has always served only 4 years. So Auriemma saying he doesn't want to coach isn't news. The main criteria for naming a new coach is international experience. The head coach must have some experience in the USAB system, either as a jr. level coach and/or a sr. level asst. Dawn Staley has been involved in USAB since she was 17 as a player and sr. level asst. coach. She would be an excellent and logical choice to be the new women's head coach.

No need for a coach; just assemble 12 WNBA players, six from each conference and nominate a veteran to coach the group. They will always win. International players cannot match the quickness and athleticism of the US women. It was pitiful watching the Aussies ran out of gas in the fourth quarter of the Olympics semi final game.

God I love that guy. I know all, and I mean all non-UCONN fans will never understand him, and some hate him. But, I don't care I'm glad we have him.

He will have plenty on his plate with his usual college coaching duties and defending himself in the lawsuit against him, the NBA, and the USOC. He and the entire National Team, probably anyone whoever played for him on a USA national team, etc will be deposed over the next year. The woman's lawyer said it could take 2 years until it comes to trial. I read the original filing and I believe the woman has a good case and a good lawyer. The fact that ESPN isn't all over this like white on rice speaks volumes to me. Oh, and Geno was clueless. We won because of depth and the experience our players have playing internationally. That is why the USA needs a coach with playing experience overseas. WE need a coach who won't be "surprised" at how good Lindsay Whalen is. We need a coach who is willing to bench his super-star when she's not performing while the "Evil Empire's" product to just deal with it that he replaced her in the starting lineup with one of his own. Geno is still immature and insecure.

Auriemma is just scared that he won't be coaching a team of mostly Huskies. And I don't like it that he's putting down the up and coming talent that's in the league and that's coming into the league. There's a lot of elite level players other than Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi in women's basketball.

My choice for the next Olympic USA Women's Basketball Coach would be Ed Grezinsky the coach of the 14 straight year NYC PSAL Girls Varsity Basketball Champion Lady Blazers of Murry Bergtraum H.S. in NYC. The Lady Blazers have also won 5 NYState Federation Championships and onced named national champions by USA Today. Great Coach and a wonderful guy.

Mr Geno hater, you neglected the fact that he also mentioned Tamika Catchings as an elite player, so he's not just focused on Huskies. I think he is complementing the current players, not insulting the future ones. Guess it depends how you look at it. The women's National team has always had a new coach every 4 years and this time will be no different. My guess is Kim Mulkey.

Pat won a gold medal in 1984. Point guard on that team was Kim Mulkey. so yes i think she should get the chance. She deserves it.

I agree that it should be Kim Mulkey. If not her, then C. Vivian Stringer of Rutgers.

Don't forget Cheryl Reeves. All she has is a WNBA title as a head coach and 2 as an assistant.
