Cincinnati quarterback Munchie Legaux will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a gruesome knee injury, Bearcats coach Tommy Tuberville confirmed to multiple media outlets Sunday.
Legaux was transferred to UC Medical Center in Cincinnati on Sunday, the school said in a news release. He spent Saturday night at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill., after Saturday's game against Illinois.
The school has not revealed the specific nature of Legaux's injury, but Tuberville said it was serious and that Legaux was having tests Monday to determine the severity of the injury.
"It was pretty significant," Tuberville said, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "Obviously we all saw it on TV."
Legaux was injured in the fourth quarter of the Bearcats' 45-17 loss; he was hit low while trying to pass, and his left leg bent awkwardly.
Legaux stayed on the turf for several minutes before being driven off on a cart. His teammates gathered around him on the field before he was carted away.
"You see freak injuries like that on TV all the time, but it's different when it happens to your brother," Cincinnati running back Ralph Abernathy said after the game. "It affects some people differently, but I personally wanted to be out there to support him. ... If he's out for the season, we're going to dedicate this season to him."
Legaux took to Twitter on Saturday night to offer thanks for the overwhelming support he has received.

A New Orleans native, Legaux passed for 237 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 52 yards prior to the injury. Senior Brendon Kay replaced Legaux and was 6-of-11 passing for 71 yards.
