Montee Ball ties TD record

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin running back Montee Ball tied the major college career touchdown record, scoring on a 7-yard run against Ohio State (No. 6 AP) on Saturday.

It was the 78th touchdown of Ball's career, matching the mark by Travis Prentice of Miami (Ohio) in 1999. Ball already has a share of the FBS single-season touchdown record, matching Barry Sanders' long-standing mark of 39 last year.

Taking a handoff from Curt Phillips, Ball ran hard up the middle. He cut to the left and banged off Ohio State safety Christian Bryant before tumbling into the end zone and setting off raucous cheers at Camp Randall Stadium.

Ball's TD cut Wisconsin's deficit in half, but Ohio State won 21-14 in overtime. Ball had 191 yards on 39 carries, but also had a key fumble on a goal-line dive in the fourth quarter.
