CB Blake Countess has torn ACL

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The fallout from Michigan's loss to No. 2 Alabama continued Monday, when the school announced sophomore cornerback Blake Countess would miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Countess, who had 44 tackles last season and was considered the top cornerback for the No. 8 Wolverines, was injured in the first quarter of the 41-14 loss on Saturday while running down the field on punt coverage.

He left the game and did not return. He later appeared on crutches on the sidelines.

Countess is eligible for a medical redshirt, which would make him a redshirt sophomore next season.

Michigan (0-1) will look to junior Courtney Avery along with sophomores Raymon Taylor and Delonte Hollowell and freshman Terry Richardson to replace Countess when it faces Air Force on Saturday.

Countess is the fourth Wolverine to suffer a season-ending injury this season. Freshman defensive lineman Chris Wormley and freshman linebacker Kaleb Ringer also suffered knee injuries, and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Chris Bryant was sidelined by a fractured tibia.
