Doug Williams inks new deal

College Football, Char. Southern Buccaneers

GRAMBLING, La. -- Grambling State coach Doug Williams' has a new three-year contract.

Williams, a former NFL quarterback and 1988 Super Bowl MVP with the Washington Redskins, is slated to earn $250,000 annually with the opportunity to earn bonuses totaling nearly $100,000.

Williams, whose new deal was approved on Monday by the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors, was suing Grambling over a contract dispute. Williams now says he's pleased that he and university officials "were able to come together on common ground."

Williams, who turns 57 in August, is in his second stint as the Tigers' coach. In between he served as an executive with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for whom he played after starring at Grambling.

Last season, Williams guided Grambling to a Southwestern Athletic Conference championship.
