Clemson and coach Dabo Swinney are close to announcing a new six-year deal, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad on Friday.
Swinney was expected to make $1.9 million in 2012, which would have ranked 46th nationally, according to data provided to ESPN.com earlier this year by athletic director Terry Don Phillips.
Clemson installed Swinney as head coach in December 2008 with a five-year contract.
His hiring came two months after he took over when Tommy Bowden walked away after nine-and-a-half seasons at the helm for the Tigers.
In Swinney's three full seasons, Clemson has gone 25-16. The Tigers finished 10-4 last season, capped by a 70-33 loss to West Virginia in the Discover Orange Bowl on Jan. 4.
