Baylor will pay interim coach Jim Grobe $1.25 million this season, an industry source told ESPN.

Grobe's eight-month, $1.25 million salary ranks as the third lowest in the Big 12, ahead of only the salaries of Iowa State's Matt Campbell and Kansas' David Beaty.

The 64-year-old Grobe took over in May for former coach Art Briles, who was fired by the school amid a sexual assault scandal that swept the university.

Grobe will be paid substantially less than Briles, who had eight years and a reported $40 million remaining on a 10-year contract he signed in November 2013.

Grobe is 110-115-1 in 20 years at Ohio (1995 to 2000) and Wake Forest (2001 to '13).

The Bears open the season at home against Northwestern State on Sept. 2.
