9th-grade QB from Hawaii gets scholarship offer from Michigan

College Football, Football Recruiting, Michigan Wolverines

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has made noise at every satellite camp he has been to this past month. He continued that trend on Wednesday by offering 2020 quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava out of Hawaii.

It's the first offer for Maiava, who is going into ninth grade, and it is also the first offer Michigan has extended to a prospect in his class.

Maiava attended one of Michigan's satellite camps at St. Louis High School in Hawaii this past week and the Wolverines became his first scholarship offer after the event.

Not surprisingly, Maiava is still taking in the offer as he later tweeted, "Still blown away... Lol hasn't soaked in yet."

Michigan has started to have a bigger presence with Hawaiian and American Samoa prospects since hiring director of player personnel Tony Tuioti from the Cleveland Browns. Tuioti is a former player and coach at the University of Hawaii and is of Polynesian descent so he still has ties to those areas and the culture.

Tuioti has already conducted a Michigan camp in American Samoa earlier this month and was on hand for the final camp in Hawaii this past week.
