Antonio Longino charged with tampering after bar shooting

NFL, College Football, Arizona State Sun Devils

Former Arizona State linebacker Antonio Longino was set to have a tryout with the Cincinnati Bengals, but was instead held by Cleveland-area police and officially charged with tampering with evidence in a homicide investigation.

Longino was freed Thursday in Cleveland Heights after posting a $100,000 bond. Dejon Forbes, 24, was killed and another man wounded early Tuesday after shots were fired into a car outside a Cleveland Heights bar.

Steven Johnson, 28, has been charged with aggravated murder in the shooting.

According to NewsNet5, the ABC affiliate in Cleveland, a car with two bullet holes was towed from Longino's aunt's house Wednesday, and bags of evidence were taken from the scene.

Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg told the TV station that her staff responded to a report of gunshots around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and found a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound in a car in a parking lot. Forbes was transported to a hospital but later died.

It's unclear whether Longino and Johnson have attorneys.

Longino had been invited to the Bengals' rookie camp as an undrafted free agent. The camp runs Friday through Sunday.

In his senior season with the Sun Devils, Longino led the Pac-12 in sacks with 11. He grew up in East Cleveland and had returned there to prepare for the NFL draft.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
