Jim Harbaugh to hold satellite camps near Kansas City

Less than a week after the NCAA rescinded a ban on satellite camps, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has scheduled two of them in the Kansas City area.

Satellite camps rose to prominence over the past year as several programs, notably Michigan and others from the Big Ten, conducted camps in the South and regions rich in recruiting prospects. Local schools argued that the camps were thinly veiled recruiting vehicles, and the NCAA Division I Council banned them. The NCAA Board of Governors overturned the ban, however, saying that the Council should do a thorough review of recruiting.

Harbaugh's latest camp will take place June 15 at Blue Springs (Missouri) South High School outside Kansas City, and is open to incoming and current high school players. Harbaugh's sister-in-law is married to the Blue Springs South boys basketball coach.

On the same day, Harbaugh will conduct a camp at Pittsburg State in Kansas, which is two hours south of Kansas City.

Though coaches can now conduct satellite camps, they are still forbidden from directly recruiting players at the camps.
