Why the Ohio State Buckeyes will not make the 2016 College Football Playoff

Insider College Football, Ohio State Buckeyes

There are 128 teams who play at the highest level of college football, and they all start the season undefeated.

But the harsh reality is only 11 have a legitimate chance to win the 2016 College Football Playoff. Those contenders have had their cases covered in detail, but what about the other potential championship-caliber teams? Why were they not included as contenders?

In this first installment of a seven-part series, let's take a look at one of those championship-caliber teams that just doesn't have quite enough to be considered a CFP contender: the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Scarlet and Grey are only two seasons removed from winning the national championship and have placed in the top seven in ESPN's recruiting rankings in each of the past five seasons. That would normally place them into the contender category, but this program has a slew of negatives that will keep them out of the CFP in 2016.
