Jordan Elliott commits to Wolverines

College Football, Football Recruiting, Michigan Wolverines

ESPN 300 defensive tackle Jordan Elliott committed to Michigan on Saturday.

The No. 47 ranked prospect, of Houston, chose the Wolverines over Texas.

Michigan now has 22 commitments in the 2016 class, including seven from the ESPN 300.

Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh showed Elliott just how much he was wanted in Ann Arbor, recently sending the player a picture of a birthday cake in the shape of Texas.

The effort paid off for the first-year Wolverines coach.

Elliott is the highest-ranked commitment for the Wolverines, overtaking No. 58 Ben Bredeson in the class. He also provides much-needed depth along the defensive line, where Michigan had some key injuries this season and will lose some big contributors after next.

Elliott adds a big piece to the interior and could help land another big piece for Michigan. No. 1 ranked Rashan Gary is the biggest target remaining and would be a good complement to Elliott and defensive ends Ron Johnson Jr., Rashad Weaver and Carlo Kemp. Gary doesn't plan to make his commitment until signing day, but the Wolverines are very much in the mix for the top prospect.
