Michigan CB Jourdan Lewis tops list of players with something to prove

College Football, Michigan Wolverines

These players will be challenged Saturday because of the matchups, game plans or situations they face.

How they perform will likely be a big factor in their teams' success or failure. And while it's likely the last thing on the players' minds, NFL evaluators are eager to see how these future pros handle these tough moments.

So no matter what lens you're looking through, these are some of the key players to watch in many of the top college football games this weekend.

Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan Wolverines

Lewis has been outstanding in man-to-man coverage all season. I know Michigan State WR Aaron Burbridge gained 132 yards on nine catches earlier this season against the Wolverines, but if you turn on the tape, you'll see that Lewis made his life difficult all game. It took 19 targets from an elite college QB (Connor Cook) for Lewis and the Wolverines to give up those numbers -- and even then, most of Burbridge's catches were 50/50 battles. On Saturday against Ohio State, Lewis will have another challenge against Michael Thomas. The Spartans proved last week that you can shut Thomas down (two catches, eight yards). Limiting the Buckeyes' big plays in the passing game will go a long way toward the Wolverines pulling the upset in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
