WR Devin Duvernay second top-50 prospect to commit to Baylor

Devin Duvernay, the No. 50-ranked prospect in the ESPN 300, is staying in the state of Texas.

Duvernay, also the nation's No. 3-ranked receiver, committed to Baylor on Friday evening, ending a recruitment that seemed destined to go the way of the Bears since the beginning of the 2015 season.

"They have just got the juice," said Duvernay, a native of Sachse, Texas. "I feel like it's the place to be, and I feel like I fit in their offense very well. Coach [Art] Briles sees my speed and playmaking ability. They say I'm similar to Corey Coleman in how I fit into the offense."

An Under Armour All-American, Duvernay selected Baylor over Oklahoma and Alabama, with which he had official visits, as well as Ohio State. Many had him pegged for Baylor because his brother, Donovan Duvernay, committed to the Bears in late September.

Devin Duvernay joins offensive lineman Patrick Hudson of Silsbee, Texas, who is No. 36 in the ESPN 300, as top-50 prospects nationally committed to the Bears. Duvernay's commitment also gives the Bears two of the Lone Star State's top-10 prospects for the second time in three years. He is the No. 9-ranked prospect in Texas, and Hudson is No. 5.

At 5-foot-11, 193 pounds, Duvernay finished his high school career with nearly 5,000 all-purpose yards. He was the Texas Class 6A state champion in the 100 meters, finishing in 10.27 seconds.

Duvernay becomes the eighth ESPN 300 commitment for Baylor in the 2016 class, which now includes four ESPN 300 receivers. He is the 17th commitment for Baylor, which boasted the No. 17-ranked class before Duvernay's pledge.

Baylor is not done in the 2016 class. With defensive line being the biggest position of need remaining, the team's top targets still on the board include ESPN 300 defensive tackle Jordan Elliott, defensive end Levi Onwuzurike, and junior college prospects Jamarcus King and Tyree Horton.
