Auburn WR D'haquille Williams tops list of players with something to prove

Scott Donaldson/Icon Sportswire

When I first started scouting college players, I was told by an influential NFL executive to pay the most attention to the games in which players faced off against other NFL-caliber talent. That's what you'll find below -- five prospects who have a chance to stand out this Saturday by raising their quality of play against the best competition.

An important note: These guys are all playing in highly competitive games against top-notch opponents, so I promise you the NFL draft is the furthest thing from their minds. This is merely a window into the evaluation process throughout the season.

D'haquille Williams, WR, Auburn Tigers

Williams entered the season as my No. 7 wide receiver prospect, mostly because of his ideal size (6-foot-2, 224 pounds) and knack for making big plays (16.2 yards per catch in 2014). But through three games this season, he's failed to improve his route running and, as a result, is not separating from coverage frequently enough. Williams stats aren't great (7 catches, 81 yards), and neither has been his body language. Perhaps Auburn's change at quarterback to Sean White will give Williams a boost as he faces one of college football's better cornerbacks, Will Redmond (see below).
