FSU extends assistant coaches through 2017

The Florida State Seminoles rewarded eight returning assistant coaches under Jimbo Fisher with contract extensions through the end of the 2017 season as well as raises.

Fisher's new contract had included increased allocations for his assistants, which were released by the school Thursday after a records request.

Defensive coordinator Charles Kelly, co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Randy Sanders, and assistant head coach and offensive line coach Rick Trickett will each earn $583,000 annually over the next three seasons.

The contracts for all nine assistant coaches end Jan. 31, 2018.

Associate head coach and defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins and co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach Lawrence Dawsey will receive $463,000 in annual compensation over the life of the three-year contract.

Recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach Tim Brewster will receive $433,000 per season. Special-teams coordinator and running backs coach Jay Graham will earn $403,000 per year, and linebackers coach Bill Miller will collect $338,000 per year through 2018.

The salary increases ranged from $63,000 to $93,000.

New defensive ends and outside linebackers coach Brad Lawing will receive $415,000.

Each assistant must pay a buyout unless he leaves for a head-coaching, pro or non-sports related position. If an assistant breaches the contract in the first year, he will have to pay a $75,000 buyout. That number dips to $50,000 if the assistant leaves in 2016.
