Louisville and Purdue will open the 2017 season at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, sources said.
The Cardinals and Boilermakers are finalizing a deal to play on Sept. 2, 2017. It will be only the second meeting between the teams. The first was a 22-22 tie in 1987 at Purdue.
The game at Lucas Oil Stadium will be Purdue's second in a four-year span. Last season the Boilermakers played Notre Dame in Indianapolis.
It also will be Louisville's second neutral-site season opener in three years. The Cardinals open this season Sept. 5 in Atlanta against Auburn.
Indianapolis is the latest city to get into the business of hosting neutral-site contests. Others include: Arlington, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; Houston; and Orlando, Florida.
Lucas Oil Stadium is scheduled to host a 2019 game between Indiana and Ball State. The home of the Indianapolis Colts, Lucas Oil Stadium also is host of the Big Ten championship game for the next seven seasons.
