Alabama CB Cyrus Jones has charges dismissed

Domestic violence charges have been dropped against Alabama cornerback Cyrus Jones, the Tuscaloosa Police Department announced Friday.

Jones was arrested Wednesday on two misdemeanor counts of third-degree domestic violence -- one count of harassment and one count of criminal mischief -- after Jones was accused of taking and damaging a woman's cellphone and threatening to assault her in front of a witness.

"Although sufficient probable cause existed for both offenses, the dismissal is based on the fact that Mr. Jones in fact attempted to de-escalate the situation by contacting the Tuscaloosa Police Department," the Tuscaloosa Police Department said in a statement Friday.

Jones, the fourth Alabama player to be arrested this spring, started all 14 games during his junior season. He led Alabama with 16 passes defended and was tied for the team lead with three interceptions.
