Jeff Quinn joins ND as analyst

College Football, Notre Dame Fighting Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has hired former Buffalo coach Jeff Quinn to be an offensive analyst for the Fighting Irish.

Kelly said Wednesday after Notre Dame's first spring practice that Quinn will have different responsibilities in terms of offensive oversight, saying he brings more "brain power."

After taking the job at Buffalo following the 2009 season, Quinn said he had turned down Kelly's offer to be Notre Dame's offensive coordinator. Quinn was fired midway through the 2014 season with a 20-36 overall record.

Quinn spent 21 years as an assistant under Kelly at Cincinnati, Central Michigan and Grand Valley State before being hired at Buffalo. The offensive analyst job is a noncoaching job.

The hiring comes after Kelly announced he had hired Mike Sanford from Boise State to be Notre Dame's offensive coordinator.

Quinn was at practice Wednesday.
