Randy Gregory comfortable at LB

NFL, NFL Draft, Nebraska Cornhuskers

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Randy Gregory showed off added weight and continued his evolution as an NFL prospect at Nebraska's pro day Thursday, working almost entirely as a linebacker in individual work before approximately 30 scouts from 26 franchises.

"I honestly feel a little bit more comfortable with [linebacker]," Gregory said. "You get that natural, athletic stance. You get to show your athleticism."

The 6-foot-4½ Gregory, who starred the past two seasons at Nebraska as a defensive end, weighed 238 pounds Thursday -- up 3 pounds from the NFL scouting combine last month.

He let his 40-yard dash time of 4.64 seconds stand from the combine in addition to the 24 reps posted on the bench press and a 36½-inch vertical leap. Gregory worked with the linebacker prospects in attendance on footwork and agility drills.

"It almost kind of reminds me of basketball," Gregory said. "You can see plays develop better. In my opinion, it's an all-around better position."

Gregory, 22, recorded 17½ sacks in two seasons at Nebraska, leaving the school with one remaining year of eligibility.

He said he believes he fits in the NFL at defensive end or outside linebacker, depending on the scheme.

"A lot of guys, you draft for one specific role," Gregory said. "I feel like with me, they can almost mold me into any player they want. I think I showed that today. I think I showed that at the combine."

Gregory's weight has long been a concern. He dipped below 220 pounds at times while at Nebraska and bulked up to 235 in Indianapolis at the combine.

"As long as it's going up," he said Thursday, "that's good."

Gregory's agent, Deryk Gilmore of Chicago-based Priority Sports, said Gregory planned to meet individually in Lincoln with four organizations before resuming his workout regimen with Goldin Athletics Training Association near Atlanta.

Gregory also plans to meet with several teams in the upcoming weeks, Gilmore said. He declined to offer details on the meetings.

The agent said he felt good about Gregory's latest workout. Gilmore said Gregory outclasses first-round prospects like Vic Beasley and Dante Fowler Jr. with his versatility.

"Everyone knows Randy can rush the passer," Gilmore said. "but he showed that he's going to be able to run down the field and stay with [All-Pro tight end] Jimmy Graham.

"That's the difference between what Randy can do and the rest of the class."
