New contract for Gary Patterson

College Football, TCU Horned Frogs

TCU coach Gary Patterson received a two-year extension through the 2020 season, according to a source.

Patterson led the No. 6 Horned Frogs (11-1) to the Big 12 co-championship and a berth in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against Ole Miss on Dec. 31.

In 2011, Patterson's deal was extended through the 2018 season.

Patterson recently received the FWAA's Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award. He has been at TCU since 2000 and is the school's all-time winningest coach.

Athletic director Chris Del Conte acknowledged Tuesday that a new deal is in place for Patterson through the end of the decade that also takes care of his assistant coaches at the private school. Del Conte wouldn't give specific details.

"We don't wait around, you don't let grass grow between your toes when you have the very best in America,'' Del Conte said. "So we settled up ... shook hands and crossed the T's and dotted the I's and we're off to the next subject.''
