Picks for biggest Week 10 games

Insider College Football

Steele: Week 10 picks | Harris: Best bets | CFB PickCenter | ESPN Chalk

Each week during the 2014 college football season, I will offer up my picks and scores for the biggest games, in addition to a handful of other key matchups. Last week, my picks went 8-2 straight up and 4-6 against the spread. My overall record this season stands at 69-21 SU and 45-44-1 ATS.

After the initial College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday, will we see Notre Dame, Georgia, Arizona and Ohio State play with a chip on their shoulders, and should Mississippi State, TCU and Arizona State be on upset alert?

No. 3 Auburn Tigers at No. 4 Ole Miss Rebels (minus-2.5)

Saturday at 7 p.m. ET, ESPN

Auburn has won four of the past five meetings in this series (both SU and ATS), but the home team has taken each of the past three. Last year, Ole Miss trailed 27-9 but cut the deficit to five with 8:29 left. However, the Rebels could muster only six more yards for the rest of the game in a 30-22 loss.

Both teams have played tough schedules. Ole Miss has outgained its foes by 113 yards per game, taking on a schedule I rank No. 3 in the country to date; meanwhile, Auburn is outgaining its foes by 134 YPG, playing the No. 5 schedule, according to my power ratings.

Both teams are coming off thrilling games last week as Ole Miss fell to LSU 10-7 as head coach Hugh Freeze had some questionable game management at the end. On the other side, Auburn faced a South Carolina team that had nothing to lose and played like it; the Tigers escaped, 42-35.

Auburn clearly has the offensive edge in this one, as the Tigers are averaging 538 YPG in SEC play. Ole Miss has failed to top 400 yards in each of its past four games. However, the Rebels clearly have the defensive edge, as they have given up only 11 points per game. Auburn has given up at least 35 points and 469 yards in each of its last two games.
