Trevor Davis released from hospital

BERKELEY, Calif. -- California receiver Trevor Davis has been released from the hospital after he was hurt on a kickoff return.

Davis was removed from the field on a stretcher in the fourth quarter of Saturday's loss against UCLA. The team says he was taken to the hospital for tests before being released around midnight Sunday.

Davis stayed down on the turf for a long time after appearing to take a knee to the helmet as he was tackled Saturday. While the trainers were tending to him, Davis' teammates kneeled on the field and the crowd chanted "Tre-vor Da-vis! Tre-vor Da-vis!"

Davis was able to move his legs and talk. He gave a thumbs up to the crowd as he was taken away on a cart.

Davis was able to watch his teammates practice on Sunday.

"He's in really good spirits," Cal coach Sonny Dykes told reporters. "It was good for our players to see him."

There's no timetable for Davis' return, but Dykes doesn't think "there's any kind of long-term issues or anything like that."
