Caleb Rowe suffers torn ACL

After making a case for playing time, Maryland backup quarterback Caleb Rowe will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee, the university announced Saturday.

C.J. Brown, who split time with Rowe over the past two games, started against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday.

Rowe, who suffered the injury his left knee during Tuesday's practice, played a large role in the last two games for the Terrapins, although he didn't start either contest.

When Brown sprained his left wrist against Indiana, Rowe stepped in and completed 12-of-18 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. A week later, Rowe saw time against Ohio State after Brown struggled in the first half.

Rowe finishes the season 34 of 54 for 489 passing yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions.

Third-stringer Perry Hills, a redshirt sophomore who hasn't attempted a pass in a game since the 2012 season, saw action Saturday after Brown was injured while being tackled on a third quarter run vs. Iowa.
