Clock mistake in Alabama-Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Southeastern Conference says the referee in the Alabama-Arkansas game mistakenly kept the clock running after a penalty near the end of regulation, allowing the Crimson Tide to end the game without running a final play.

Spokesman Chuck Dunlap says referee Penn Wagers signaled for the clock to start with 1:01 remaining in Alabama's 14-13 win, after guard Arie Kouandjio had been called for a false-start penalty on third and short near midfield. However, the clock should have started on the ensuing snap.

The Razorbacks stopped the Crimson Tide on third down, but the clock runoff allowed Alabama to end the game without running a play on fourth down.

Dunlap declined to say if Wagers would face a reprimand.
