Rutgers' Paul James has torn ACL

Rutgers starting running back Paul James will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a torn ACL in his right knee during Saturday's win at Navy.

Scarlet Knights coach Kyle Flood confirmed James' injury Sunday afternoon. James has 363 rushing yards and five touchdowns this season and had 96 yards on seven carries at Navy before the injury. He went down in the second quarter when the helmet of Navy cornerback Brendon Clements collided with his knee.

James, a fourth-year junior and a former walk-on, started eight games for Rutgers last season but missed four games with a broken bone in his leg. Despite his injury, he still led the American Athletic Conference with 97.9 rush yards per game.

Justin Goodwin and Desmon Peoples filled in for James following the injury at Navy. Freshmen Josh Hicks and Robert Martin also are expected to take on bigger roles, Flood said.
