Joshua Stanford leaves Hokies

Virginia Tech receiver Joshua Stanford has been granted a leave of absence to take care of personal issues, the school announced Tuesday.

Stanford, a sophomore, has played in all three games this season with two starts, catching five passes for 35 yards.

Without Stanford, Virginia Tech will rely more heavily on Willie Byrn and veteran Demitri Knowles, plus freshmen Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips.

The Hokies (2-1), who were upset by East Carolina this past weekend, take on Georgia Tech on Saturday.
