GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Starting left tackle D.J. Humphries suffered a high ankle sprain in Florida's season opener Saturday and could miss the Gators' first road game, at No. 3 Alabama on Sept. 20.
"We think we'll get him back after the open week [on Sept. 27]," coach Will Muschamp said Monday. "As we move forward we'll know more, but he'll definitely be out this week."
Florida (1-0) opens its SEC schedule at home against Kentucky (2-0) on Saturday night. Muschamp said senior right tackle Chaz Green will shift into Humphries' spot, while redshirt freshman Roderick Johnson will start at right tackle.
In the aftermath of Florida's 65-0 win against Eastern Michigan, Humphries' injury was initially reported to be a chipped bone in his ankle. Florida also lost senior tight end Jake McGee to a season-ending broken leg on Saturday.
McGee had surgery Saturday night and was expected to be released from the hospital Monday.
Sophomore safety Marcus Maye is expected to return to action Saturday after missing the opener with a hamstring injury. Muschamp also said true freshman cornerback J.C. Jackson will be evaluated Monday after aggravating a shoulder injury for the second time since preseason camp in August.
