Jeff Lindquist to start for Huskies

College Football, Washington Huskies

Sophomore Jeff Lindquist will be the starting quarterback when the Washington Huskies take the field against Hawaii on Aug. 30.

After that, it's still anybody's guess.

"We'll go with him [Lindquist] and see how he does," Washington coach Chris Petersen told reporters after practice on Friday. "He has done a great job in spring through now."

Petersen also complimented redshirt freshman QB Troy Williams, who battled with Lindquist for most of the spring, saying that the decision between the two was "splitting hairs." Petersen did say that he felt that Lindquist made fewer errors during the Huskies' scrimmage situation through camp, which helped give the sophomore the edge.

Cyler Miles, who was expected to be the starter coming out of last season, will be unavailable for the game as he sits out for a one-game suspension that Petersen imposed on the sophomore for his role in a fight during the winter.

Petersen said that the coaching staff would re-evaluate the quarterback position after the opener.

Lindquist appeared in three games for Washington last year.
