The No. 14 Wisconsin Badgers will start junior Tanner McEvoy at quarterback for next week's season opener against No. 13 LSU, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Badgers coach Gary Andersen said Monday that he wouldn't announce a starting quarterback before the game, but sources told the Journal Sentinel that McEvoy will get the nod over Joel Stave, who started 19 games the past two seasons.

"We may know who the starter is, but we're not going to say who the starter is until we jog out on the field for the LSU game," Andersen said Monday.

McEvoy briefly competed for the starting job last summer after transferring to Wisconsin from Arizona Western College. Stave won the job and the 6-foot-6, 222-pound McEvoy saw time at both wide receiver and safety during the season, starting three games at safety and recording 27 tackles and an interception.

McEvoy, who started his college career at South Carolina, took most of the snaps during the spring as Stave recovered from a right shoulder injury sustained in the Capital One Bowl. Both quarterbacks performed well in a scrimmage earlier this month.

Stave has passed for 3,598 yards with 28 touchdowns during his college career.
