Pitt's Titus Howard banned for season

Pittsburgh cornerback Titus Howard has been suspended for the 2014 season, coach Paul Chryst announced Friday.

Howard will remain with the program and practice, under the terms of the suspension. No reason was given for the suspension.

Projected as a starter entering this season, Howard played in 11 games and started two as a true freshman in 2013, tallying 21 tackles and two pass break-ups.

Howard's suspension is a big hit to a Panthers cornerback group that returns just two players with game experience in Lafayette Pitts and Trenton Coles.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Howard was an ESPN three-star prospect out of nearby Clairton High in the class of 2012.
