Adam Muema: Not a slave to coaches

Former San Diego State running back Adam Muema said he is done playing football and plans to try boxing or ultimate fighting.

"I don't like being a slave to money or coaches," Muema said Tuesday. "I prefer an individual sport."

Muema said he went on vacation during the NFL draft, when he went unselected. Muema said he didn't answer his phone or check voicemail.

He left the NFL scouting combine in February without working out, saying God told him to do so. He disappeared for several days before resurfacing.

Muema ran for 1,244 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior last season and was once ranked the 24th-best running back by ESPN's Scouts Inc.

The NFL's draft advisory board had graded him as a fourth- to seventh-round pick, the U-T San Diego said.

Muema had said God told him he would play for the Seattle Seahawks if he skipped the combine.
